Audience Growth and Revenue Strategies

Nine Publishing, Australia: Nine is Australia’s largest locally-owned commercial media company. My brief was to design and launch a ‘Publishing Academy’ - an in-house program to build capability and streamline workflows at the Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, Australian Financial Review, Brisbane Times, and WA Today. Focus areas: newsroom leadership, techniques to attract and grow subscribers & new audiences, AI tools for production & project management, investigative research, and mobile video storytelling. (2025-26).

Thomson Reuters Foundation, UK: Creator consultancy for Alternativata Bulgaria to assist with audience engagement and video monetisation strategies, plus training in video shoot-editing for web and vertical platforms (TikTok, Reels, Shorts) (2025).

Thomson Reuters Foundation, UK: Consultancy for iFact Georgia on investigative filmmaking techniques to engage youth audiences, plus training in investigative film-making techniques (2024).

Walkley Foundation, Australia: Training to help Australian newsrooms identify new income streams, and to define and measure audience impact from innovation approaches including solutions and constructive reporting (2024).

Aga Khan University, Kenya: Media revenue and sustainability training for African Media Managers Boot Camp, a 7-month graduate program for mid-career media managers and editors from Kenya (2023).

WAN-IFRA, India: Podcast ideation and monetisation strategies, plus presentation skills training for the podcast team at The Hindu, one of India’s biggest newspapers (2022, 2023, 2024, 2025).

ABU Media Academy, Malaysia: Training to help editors and reporters from 24 outlets across Central and East Asia, to improve approaches and techniques to attract youth audiences to news content (2022).

WAN-IFRA / Mathrubhumi Online, India: Podcast ideation and monetisation strategies for Mathrubhumi, one of India’s largest online news outlets (2021).

WAN-IFRA South Asia / Times of India: Training on audience engagement techniques for senior editors, plus production skills training for reporters on social media, vertical video, podcasting, and mobile journalism (2020).

Reach PLC / Google News Initiative, UK: Podcast Ideation and Monetisation Strategy, a roadshow training program for 80 reporters at Daily Mirror, Birmingham Mail, The Scotsman, and Manchester Evening News (2019-2020).

WAN-IFRA Asia / Women in News, Vietnam: Newsroom strategy and convergence training for senior editorial leaders, plus multimedia production skills for women reporters, at the Vietnam News Agency (2019).

WAN-IFRA, India: Advanced training for editors from major outlets to design social-first editorial products. Program comprised in-person training in Mumbai followed by 3 months remote mentoring to support pilot projects at each participating outlet (2019).

BBC Media Action, Algeria: Digital strategy, social engagement, and mobile multimedia production skills training for reporters from Radio Algerie in Saida and Tlemcen (2018).

Career Coaching and Mentoring

Private Coaching: I provide 45-minute career coaching and mentoring sessions on request. Coaching clients have included senior media leaders and editors keen to soundboard new strategies and tech, academics and researchers, and individuals from a range of industries preparing for a career transition (2018-present).

Thomson Reuters Foundation, Various: I have provided 1:1 coaching and mentoring to editors, reporters, and NGO communication staff in more than 20 countries via TRF’s mentoring programs. Coaching supports a practical personal post-training project, to achieve real-world outcomes and build confidence and skills. (2015-present)

Nine, Australia: I provided mentoring to women reporters via the Publishing Division’s gender equity mentoring program (2026).

Walkley Foundation, Australia: Managed design and roll-out of the Walkley Mentorship Program, a national program that pairs emerging reporters with industry leader mentor. Project included identifying and training mentors, and mentee matching (2023, 2024).

Women in Media, Australia: I have served as a Women in Media mentor to female reporters from a variety of media roles, from junior journalists to senior editorial leaders (2023, 2024).

  • Science Journalism Forum: Consultancy on topics and speakers to the Science Journalism Forum, a virtual conference that has run annually since 2020 (2020-2022).

  • Konrad Adenaeur Stiftung Media Program, Asia: Consultancy to provide guidance on topics and speakers for the Mobile Journalism Conference for Asia. The inaugural conference in Bangkok in 2019 sold out, and the online conference in 2020 attracted more than 750 participants from over 50 countries (2019-2020).

  • Mobile Journalism Meetups in London and Sydney – I ran monthly events on mobile journalism in London, hosted by Trinity Mirror, in 2015-2016. I ran similar events in Sydney, hosted by the ABC, in 2016-2017.

Implementing Solutions Journalism (2024)

Implementing Solutions Journalism - A guide to putting solutions approaches into practice for reporters and editors.

This free online guide distils key takeaways from a 6-month training and mentoring program I delivered for the Walkley Foundation in partnership with the Solutions Journalism Network.

The guide will help you experiment with solutions approaches to journalism, navigate potential challenges, and leverage the opportunities it presents to forge closer relationships with audiences, improve your ability to cover diverse communities.

It also explains how to capture the impact of solutions stories to demonstrate social impact to financial stakeholders, including donors and advertisers, to boost revenue.


The Mobile Journalism Manual (2022)

The Mobile Journalism Manual for Reporters and Newsrooms is a free online book by Corinne Podger, which was published by Konrad Adenauer Stiftung’s Media Programme Asia in 2022. The Manual has been used as a set text at more than 50 universities worldwide. It is an excellent companion to an online or face-to-face workshop, and includes links to external tutorials on apps and equipment.

Challenge of the Climate Crisis (2021)

I was a contributing author to Challenge of the Climate Crisis, a handbook to help newsrooms cover climate change. It is based on learnings from journalism training I delivered on behalf of Fathm for WAN-IFRA in 2021, with funding from the Temasek Foundation.


Digital Publisher Business Models (2020)

I wrote the ‘Digital Publisher Business Models’ chapter in New and Niche Publishers Australian Guide to Digital Advertising, a guide for small and specialist media outlets to diversifying revenue sources and strengthening online advertising published by IAB Australia in 2020.
